"mr. boddy" was recorded october 7-20, 2008. i played and mixed everything. it was produced by me and robin dove. seriously, robin saved it from sucking, because she would let me know when it sucked. all the mixing and recording was done with apple's Logic Studio, except when i used Ableton Live to edit/fix the drums. i am terrible at drums, so Live was a lifesaver. there was a lot of fixing to be done. but besides that there wasnt too much digital tomfoolery, no autotune or stuff like that. i used a groove tubes "the brick" preamp for pretty much everything, including running the finished mixes through for some added warmth and reality. i used a shure sm7 for most things, and for drums added in a sm57, some CAD ldc, and a sennheiser k6 as a room mic. i had originally gone back to louisville to record drums at the beginning of the recording, but the power was out in most of the city, including my parents' house, so that didnt work out so well. but that was ok because the songs changed a ton in the next couple weeks, and "never enuff" and "last to leave" were written in that time period. the final lyrics of "last to leave" were actually written and recorded october 20, the day before the EP was released. i recorded drums october 17-18, which was weird because basically everything else was recorded already (drums are usually recorded first, not last). the guitars were mostly done through a line6 PODxt pro with a tubescreamer and holy grail reverb, since i cant really have loud guitar amps going on in my apartment. bass was through the POD too. my allergies have been hell for the last month, so i was nervous singing was gonna be impossible. thankfully i was able to find my neti pot and clear out a lot of that snot for long enough to pull some vocals together. some of the sniffliness is still there, but whatev. i did the artwork before any of the recording was done by cutting stuff out of some vogue and cosmo magazines. i hope you like it.
